Rural Turkey and Feud-Tradition

Sinan Çaya

Abstract

Vandettas (feuds), based on collective revenge, are among ancient characteristic traits of primitive or underdeveloped societies. In rural sections of Turkey the tradition still lingers in some remote places, despite diminishing tendencies along the course of modernization. Psychological and sociological considerations seem to co-work to perpetuate it.
